Powdered Dancer (Argia moesta)

A rather uncommon damselfly in the Hartman Prehistoric Garden, the Powdered Dancer is one of at least five species seen here known as "Dancers." These are all members of the genus Argia and have similar habits. The powdered dancer takes its name from the dusty look that the male acquires as he ages, shown in the top photo. Females look rather different, and come in various colors, including sky blue, as in the photo directly below, and brown, as in the lowest one. These damselflies have very fine black lines on their thorax, as opposed to the thick lines on other species.
