An occasional visitor to the Garden ponds, the Blue-ringed Dancer is one of at least five Argia species. The unique pattern on its abdomen helps identify it. These medium-sized damselflies are not particularly aggressive and seem to spend as much time away from the water as near it. The male pictured above was found near the ponds, but it was constantly harassed by the more territorial Rambur's forktails, which are very numerous at times.
