The Great Purple Hairstreak is not really purple, but has a stunning deep blue metallic color on its upper wing surfaces and a lighter blue area on the bottom of the forewings. It is not particularly common in the Garden, but is hard to miss when it is present. The larvae feed only on mistletoe.
