If the large size and solid black color do not identify the American Crow, the distinctive call will. Crows are omnivorous, eating seeds, nuts, mice, carrion, eggs, and young birds. They are also highly adaptive and do quite well in urban areas, where they can learn to open trash and food containers to get at the contents. Although usually found in small groups (a group of crows is traditionally called a "murder"), larger flocks of over 100 birds may occasionally be seen.
