Cycas panzhihuaensis may turn out to be one of the most cold hardy of all cycads. The leaves on the specimens in the HPG have never shown any signs of frost damage. Along with Cycas taitungensis, it is a sister species of Cycas revoluta from the Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in China. Its requirements in cultivation are the same as C. revoluta. Notice the thick tomentum (small wooly hairs) on the apex of the trunk surrounding the newly emergent flush of leaves in the photo below. This thick tomentum and the beautiful dark blue-green leaves are typical of the species.
