One of the largest skippers, the Silver-spotted Skipper is also rather approachable if one moves slowly. Its flight is fast and erratic, so it can easily dash away if threatened. The most obvious identifying characteristic is the large white spot on the underside of each hindwing. Although this species rarely spreads its wings when resting, it is possible to sometimes see the golden spots on the forewings.
