Horace's Duskywing (Erynnis horatius)

Horace's Duskywing is a dark brown, finely marked, medium-sized skipper. The type of light and angle of viewing have a marked effect on how dark the butterflies actually appear. They sometimes seem almost black, especially the male (below). The female, shown above, has more pronounced markings than the male.
