Texas Lantana (Lantana horrida)

Like some of the cultivated garden lantanas, the Texas lantana is a medium-sized perennial shrub that bears beautiful little clusters of flowers throughout much of the summer. The foliage of lantanas smells rather strange and is slightly nauseating to some people, thus giving the plant a common name of polecat geranium. The berries that form after the flowers are pollinated start off green, but then turn a metallic blue-black color. They are poisonous to humans, but are food for birds and insects.
