This perennial is an excellent shade flower, producing vivid red blossoms all summer long no matter how much sun it receives. It forms a small shrub up to 3 feet in height and width. The berries look like small red tomatoes and are just about as vivid in color as the flowers. This plant borders on being a weed because the myriad seeds germinate readily and the resulting colony of hardy, thick-rooted plants can overwhelm other species.
