The Dainty Sulphur is the smallest of our sulphur butterflies, as well as one of the smallest butterfly of any family. It has a wingspan of about an inch. Although it is rarely seen with wings spread open, the upper sides of the wings are yellow with black markings.

With elongate wings and a fuzzy appearance, this tiny butterfly looks rather moth-like if it weren't for the way it holds its wings. This sulphur is found in our area all year, although it isn't as common during the winter and early spring.

During the summer, the colors on the underside of the wings vary in the amount of yellow or white. In the winter brood, the color is a dull green.
