If this plant were larger, it would be a problem in the Garden, since it spreads underground as well as by seed. Fortunately, showy primrose, or pink evening primrose, grows to only about a foot in height, with thin stems and sparse leaves which die back during hot weather, so it poses no threat of overgrowing other plants. A sun-loving perennial, showy primrose often grows in lawns or along highways, where its low manner allows it to thrive in spite of mowing. The large pink flowers vary from almost white to deep pink.
