While this beautifully colored snake should be easy to spot, it is actually rarely seen. The Rough Green Snake is a mostly arboreal species that only occasionally descends to the ground. It's brilliant color is adapted to that of tree leaves, rather than grass which seasonally turns brown. It is so reliant on camouflage that it will often freeze when approached, swaying slightly to mimic the movement of branches in the wind. This small nonvenonomous snake preys on insects and spiders.
