Although the Rio Grande Leopard Frog is nocturnal, it can sometimes be seen during the day at the water's edge in the ponds. Befitting a southwestern amphibian, this species can tolerate hot and dry conditions by burrowing under rocks.
Unlike toads, which lay eggs in strands, frogs lay theirs in clusters. The eggs below have recently hatched and some of the tadpoles are still clinging to the gelatin mass.
