Some assassin bugs have bright red and black colors, which would not seem practical for an insect that must stalk and capture prey. The colors, however, are mimicking those of the milkweed bugs, harmless herbivores that are distasteful to predators. Armed with such a disquise, the ½ inch long Horned Assassin Bug is not only safe from larger predators that might eat it, but also will not alarm other insects which it hunts.
