Most jumping spiders are quite small, but if viewed closely, they display intricate patterns and colors. The Pale Jumping Spider is such an arachnid. The combination of red and white colors on the face, black and greenish body, and multi-colored legs make this spider distinctive.
The large forward looking pair of eyes (the other six smaller eyes are arrayed to the sides) give jumping spiders their characteristic facial expression and also allow them to see exceptionally well.

While the male, above, is very colorful, the female, shown below, is a light brown to tan color and provides the source of the common name.
