The Superb Cicada is one of the prettiest of our annual cicada species. It is the only one with so much green on the head and thorax. Cicadas are sometimes called locusts, although they do not jump and are not closely related to grasshoppers. They are also called Dog Day Harvestflies, which is rather descriptive considering that most emerge during the hottest part of summer.
