Although the enormous colonies of White-winged Doves that once occupied the southern part of Texas were decimated by agricultural development, the species is still quite common in this area. Similar in appearance to mourning doves, white-winged doves are slightly heavier and have a shorter tail, as well as the distinctive white band on the wings. During the spring, these doves may sing throughout the night.
