The Hartman Prehistoric Garden is located within Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin, Texas. The main entrance to the Garden is at 2220 Barton Springs Road, east of Mopac (Loop 1) and just south of Town Lake. This parking lot is free of charge on weekdays; a fee of $3 is charged on weekends and holidays. Due to the recent
thefts of plants from the Hartman Prehistoric Garden, the Stratford
Drive entrance is now closed.
The Garden is open at 7:00 AM each morning and closes around sunset.
Garden Etiquette
- No food or picnicking allowed
- Do not pick flowers, seeds or leaves
- Children must be supervised
- Stay on the pathways
- No climbing on trees, walls, railings, fences, sculptures, rocks, waterfalls or other structures
- Do not throw anything into the ponds
- Keep out of the ponds and waterways (this includes pets)
- All pets must be on a leash and in control at all times
- Clean up after your pet
- Place litter in trash barrels or take it out of the garden
- Do not feed or bother the fish or wildlife that live in the garden
- No balls, frisbees, balloons, kites, geocaching or other potentially damaging items or games
- No bikes, scooters, skateboards or roller blades
- No alcoholic beverages allowed
This is a botanical garden, with all plant and animal life protected. Photography is permitted as long as all participants remain on the paths and other visitors are not inconvenienced.
